Common questions
- Do I have to sign in?
- Yes. You sign in once with your Apple account the first time you open the app, and stay signed in after that. The default speaking voice is synthesized in the cloud, and your account is how we keep track of that. You can choose Hide My Email when you sign in. The privacy policy lists exactly what we receive and what we do not.
- Does it work without a connection?
- Yes. Your phone’s built-in voice speaks in airplane mode, and your phrases, history and diary all live on your phone. Only the cloud voices need a connection.
- Is what I type stored anywhere?
- When you use a cloud voice, the sentence you want spoken goes to our server and then on to the speech provider. It is deleted once synthesis finishes — we don’t save it in a database or include it in our logs. Your phrases, history and diary entries stay on your phone. We don’t receive them.
- Where does the audio go while the app is listening?
- It uses the speech recognition built into your iPhone. Apple may upload that audio to its own servers to turn it into text, and that part is covered by Apple’s privacy policy. We receive neither the audio nor the transcript; the words appear only on your screen.
- What happens when I get a new phone?
- Export a backup file from Settings. It carries your phrases, the audio already synthesized for them, and the settings you’ve adjusted — including the opening phrase you wrote for listening. Install the app on the new phone and import it.
- How do I cancel a subscription?
- Subscriptions are handled by Apple. On your iPhone, open Settings, tap your name at the top, and then tap Subscriptions. We can’t cancel it for you, and Apple doesn’t allow us to do it on your behalf.
