Terms of Use & Subscription Terms

TypeOut speaks what you type out loud, turns what the other person says into large text on screen, and provides phrases, history and a diary. It is a communication tool.

It is not a medical device and is not a substitute for medical, legal or emergency services. In an emergency, use your local emergency number.

The voice built into your phone is free and unlimited, and works in airplane mode. Speaking, listening, phrases, history, the diary, all twelve appearances and backup export cost nothing and require no account.

Once you sign in we also give you a free trial allowance so you can try the network-synthesized voices properly. ⚠️ Each account receives this allowance once, for the life of the account. It runs until it is used up and does not renew monthly.

Network voices are charged by billable character, using the same counting method our speech provider uses to charge us. ASCII characters — Latin letters, digits and common punctuation — count as one character; other characters, including Chinese characters, kana and Hangul, count as two. Punctuation and spaces among them still count as one.

The app displays a “character” count equal to half the billable count, which makes the number easier to interpret for Chinese and Japanese text. The allowance is settled after synthesis finishes, so the final line may exceed the remaining allowance slightly. We do not charge you for that small excess.

When the allowance runs out, the app notifies you once and then falls back to the voice built into your phone. It does not interrupt the conversation you are having.

Membership is sold monthly or annually. Both options provide the same allowance; the only difference is the billing period. The membership allowance is granted per billing period and does not roll over into the next one.

• The App Store displays the price for your country or region, and the price is stated clearly in the app and on the App Store confirmation screen before you buy.
• Payment is charged to your Apple Account when you confirm the purchase.
• The subscription renews automatically unless you turn off auto-renewal at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
• The renewal charge is taken within 24 hours before the end of the current period.
• You can manage the subscription or turn off auto-renewal at any time in your Apple Account settings. On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name at the top, and then tap Subscriptions.
• Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period, and membership remains active until then. ⚠️ Apple does not provide a prorated refund for the portion already paid for the current period.
• Switching between monthly and annual membership is a crossgrade: the change takes effect on your next renewal date, with no proration.

⚠️ We do not provide a cancellation control in the app, and Apple does not allow us to cancel subscriptions on your behalf. Signing out or deleting your account does not cancel the subscription — you must cancel it in your Apple Account settings, or billing continues.

A top-up pack is a one-time purchase and does not auto-renew. The allowance is credited to your account on purchase, does not expire, and lasts until it is used up.

⚠️ Top-up packs are consumable purchases; under Apple’s rules they are generally not refundable and do not transfer between devices — they remain associated with the account used to purchase them.

All payments are processed by Apple, and Apple decides whether to issue a refund. We neither receive your payment nor have any ability to refund it. To request a refund, visit reportaproblem.apple.com or submit a request through your Apple Account settings.

If you believe a fault on our side caused your allowance to be deducted incorrectly, write to us. We will check your usage records and restore the allowance if it was deducted incorrectly.

• Do not use the app for anything unlawful, or to harass, threaten, or impersonate anyone.
• Do not attempt to bypass the allowance, tamper with the client, or send automated bulk requests to the service.
• Your account is for your own use. We cannot restore allowance used after your credentials have been exposed.

We may suspend or terminate an account for serious or repeated breaches of the above. If that happens, we will notify you first and explain the reason.

Network voices depend on a third-party speech service and on your connection, and may be unavailable during maintenance, faults or provider outages. When that happens the app falls back to the voice built into your phone and you can still speak — which is exactly why it was designed that way from the start.

We do not promise uninterrupted service. If we ever have to permanently discontinue the service, we will provide notice in advance and address any unused membership time in accordance with applicable law.

The app is provided “as is”. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect losses arising from its use. ⚠️ This does not reduce rights the law gives you — where your jurisdiction provides guarantees that cannot be excluded, those prevail.

In all cases, our total liability will not exceed the amount you actually paid for the app during the preceding 12 months.

You can delete your account or uninstall the app at any time. ⚠️ Deleting your account does not cancel a subscription — cancel it separately in your Apple Account settings (see section 4).

Changes update the effective date at the top of this page. For substantive changes affecting payment or your rights, we will give notice in the app beforehand.

These terms are governed by the laws of the People’s Republic of China, excluding its conflict-of-law rules. If any provision is held invalid, the rest remain in force.
